Bushel Basket Leaf Card Tutorial

This card was one of the samples that I shared at my October workshops. My stampers loved the idea of the bushel basket shaped card so much that some of them traced the design onto their grid paper to recreate it at home. This card was inspired by Connie Babbert’s cute card. Although the end version of my card looks completely different, thank you Connie for giving me a creative spark.

Bushel Basket Card Tutorial

Step One

1. Start with a piece of 11” x 4- ¼” Tempting Turquoise card stock. On the long side, score the card stock at the 5- ½” mark. Fold in half along the score line and set aside.

Step Two

2. Cut a 4-¼” x 3-½” piece of River Rock Card Stock. On one of the 4- ¼” sides make a pencil mark ½” in on either side.

Step Three

3. Using a straight-edged cutter, cut from the pencil mark to the corner on both sides to create a tapered box that resembles a basket.

Step Four

4. Trace the sides of the basket onto the Tempting Turquoise card base, making sure that the opening of the card is towards the bottom.

Step Five

5. Using a straight-edged cutter, cut along the traced lines, making sure to cut slightly inside of the lines. You will not want to see any turquoise peeking out from the sides of the basket.

Step Six

6. Run the River Rock basket piece through the Big Shot with the Stripes Embossing Folder.

Step Seven

7. Sponge the Basket piece with River Rock Ink and a Sponge Dauber. Note: To make brad placement easier, sponge the side that has an embossed (raised rather than indented) stripe down the CENTER (see red pencil pointing to the stripe I’m referring to).

Step Eight

8. Cut ONE 4-¼” x ½” strip and TWO 4-¼” x 3/8” strips of River Rock. Sponge the edges of theses strips with River Rock Ink and a Sponge Dauber.

Step Nine

9. Adhere the River Rock strips to the basket, adhering the widest one to the top. Note: You can use SNAIL or a light adhesive, because these strips will also be held on with brads.

Step Ten

10. Turn the basket piece over and snip off the overhang of each strip. This is the front view of what the basket should look like when you're done trimming the strips.

Step Eleven

11. Pierce the basket as shown

Step Twelve

12. Add the mini silver brads.

Step Thirteen

13. Prepare an assortment of leaves and acorns to put in the basket. I used the Autumn Accents die and various embossing folders.

Step Fourteen

14. Decide on the placement of the leaves. Some of the leaves will be tucked behind the basket. Adhere these ones first.

Step Fifteen

15. Then adhere the bushel basket with sticky strip, followed by the rest of the leaves and the acorn.

Step Sixteen

16. Finish off the card as desired.
