Darling Drawers

    I have always wanted to design a set of drawers, but it wasn't until I saw the Things I Love stamp set from Stampin' Up!, that I finally knew what I wanted to do with them. The top of the dresser reads "Things i love ..." and one of the drawers is labeled chocolate. The little hand mirror on top of the dresser reads "but most of all ... you" and the reverse of the mirror is an actual one inch round mirror. The nice thing about this design is that you choose the number of drawers to make 2, 3 or 4. It would make a cute gift of just a pretty thing to have sit on your desk. Step 1: Drawer Base
Start with a piece of 12" x 12" card stock. Score at 2", 4", 8" and 10".

Step 2:
Turn the Card Stock 1/4 turn and score at 2", 4", 8" and 10". At the 6" mark, score from the top edge of the card stock stopping two inches down and then on the opposite end of the card stock score two inches up along the 6" score line (see photo).

Step 3:
Cut away the corner squares and the two adjacent squares on all four corners of the drawer base. You will be cutting away three squares from each corner. Cut along the score lines where indicated by the bold black lines (4 places). Also, cut a 1/8" slot along the two score lines that you made at the six-inch score mark (2 places). Optional: Cut away about a 1/8" strip of card stock from the areas shaded in light green in the diagram (4 places). This step will help your base fold together more easily.

Step 4:
Stamp, wheel or decorate your card stock as desired.

Step 5: Drawer shelf
Start with an 8" x 8" piece of card stock. Score the card stock at 2", 4" and 6".

Step 6:
Turn the card stock 1/4 turn and score at 2" and 6".

Step 7:
Please note: that the photo of step 7 shows the position of the drawer shelf as it was in step 5. Cut away all four corner squares of the drawer shelf. At the 4" score mark, cut a 1/8" slot two inches in, on both sides of the card stock (see photo for correct placement).

Step 8:
Decorate your drawer shelf as desired. Please note: not much of the drawer shelf will show when the drawers are in place.

Step 9: Drawer Base & Shelf Assembly
Take the drawer base piece and put it on the table in front of you decorated side DOWN. Fold inward along all the score lines.

Step 10:
Take the drawer shelf piece and place it on the table in front of you, decorated side UP. Fold along score lines as shown.

Step 11:
IMPORTANT: All parts of this project (drawer base, drawer shelf and drawers) can be assembled without adhesive. I recommend not using adhesive the first time you put them together. Once you know how to assemble the project, you may go back and add a little adhesive so that every piece lies flat. For the sake of clarity, I will use the positions of the compass to refer to pieces that will be folded and tucked in. Make sure that you have the drawer base positioned the same way as it was in Step 9. Start assembling the drawer base by folding down the North side of the drawer base, while tucking in the NE and NW tabs.

Step 12:
Pick up the drawer shelf in the middle and place it inside the drawer base as shown.

Step 13: Make sure to position the drawer shelf all the way into the top of the drawer base.

Step 14:
Fold down the two East and two West pieces on either side of the shelf.

Step 15:
The drawer base and shelf should now look like this

Step 16:
Fold in the South side of the drawer base, while tucking in the SE and SW tabs.

Step 17:
The photo shows the South side being folded in.

Step 18:
The drawer base with shelf are now complete

Step 19: Rectangle Drawer
Start with a 11-3/8" x 9-3/8" piece of card stock. On each side of the card stock, score in at 1-7/8" and 3-3/4". Scor-Pal users: Shift card stock to the 1/4" mark (see red arrow) and score at the 2-1/8" and 4" (repeat for all four sides).

Step 20:
Cut away the corner squares and the two adjacent squares on all four corners of the drawer base. You will be cutting three squares away from each corner. Cut along the score lines where indicated by the bold black lines.

Step 21:
Flip the Card Stock over and fold in along all score lines.

Step 22:
Fold in the East and West squares.

---

Step 23:
Fold down the North side of the drawer while tucking in the NE and NW squares.

Step 24:
Fold in the South side of the drawer while tucking the SE and SW squares.

Step 25:
The finished rectangular drawer should look like this.

Step 26: Square Drawer (make two)
Start with a 9-3/8" x 9-3/8" piece of card stock. On each side of the card stock, score in at 1-7/8" and 3-3/4". Scor-Pal users: Follow scoring instructions for step 19 (same for rectangular and square drawers). Cut away the corner squares and the two adjacent squares on all four corners of the drawer base. You will be cutting three squares away from each corner. Cut along the score lines where indicated by the bold black lines. Flip the Card Stock over and fold in along all score lines.

Step 27:
Fold in the East and West squares.

Step 28:
Fold down the North side of the drawer while tucking in the NE and NW squares. Fold in the South side of the drawer while tucking the SE and SW squares.

Step 29:
The finished square drawer should look like this. Repeat steps 26-29 to make a second square drawer.

Step 30:
When you have all three drawers made, they should fit into the drawer base like this.
