Hershey's Car Tutorial

With Father’s Day just around the corner, what could be a better gift for dad than a car. Now most of us can’t afford to spend that kind of money, so how about one made out of card stock and Hershey’s chocolate. The idea for the car really came together when I figured out a way to make wheels out of Hershey’s kisses a few weeks ago. Then I played around with the shapes a bit to come up with a plausible car body. I hope you will have fun personalizing this car and I hope it will put a smile on some faces.

If you would like to make your own Hershey’s Car, just follow my step-by-step tutorial below. Please Note: I recommend the use of Stampin’ Up card stock for all my tutorials. Hershey’s Car Tutorial

Step One

1. To make the car body, start out with a 9-¼” x 1” piece of card stock. On the long side, score at the ½”, 4-3/8”, 4-7/8” and 8-¾” marks.

Step Two

2. Place a piece of sticky strip on one of the ends.

3. Fold the strip along all the score marks. Set aside

Step Four

4. For the car body filler strip, start with a 5-1/8” x 1” strip of Tempting Turquoise card stock. On the long side, score at the 1-3/8”, 1-7/8”, 3-¼” and 3-¾” marks.

Step Five

5. Fold the strip along the score lines as shown. Place two strips of sticky strip on both end segments. Also put two strips of sticky strip on the middle segment (not shown in photo see arrow).

Step Six

6. Remove the sticky strip liner of both end segments and place inside the car body, with the ends nesting against the score marks.

Step Seven

7. Remove the remaining sticky strip liner and close up the car body.

Step Eight

8. To create TWO filler strips, start with a 3-½” x 2” strip of Tempting Turquoise card stock. On the long side score at the ½”, 1-7/8” and 2-3/8” marks.

Step Nine

9. On the 2” side, cut into one inch strips.

---

Step Ten

10. Fold the strips along the score lines as shown. Insert the strips into the two end spaces of the car body. The middle space is small enough and does not need a filler strip.

Step Eleven

11. Insert three nuggets into the rectangular spaces. The middle nugget is inserted upside down.

Step Twelve

12. For the car windows, start out with a 5-5/8” x 1” piece of card stock. On the long side, score at the 3/8”, 2-½”, 3- ½” and 4-5/8” marks.

Step Thirteen

13. Place a piece of sticky strip on the tab end.

Step Fourteen

14. Fold along the score lines. Remove the sticky strip liner and bring ends together to form half a hexagon.

Step Fifteen

15. For the filler strip, start with a 7” x 1” strip of card stock. On the long side, score at all the inch marks.

Step Sixteen

16. Fold the strip into triangles as shown.

Step Seventeen

17. Insert the filler strip into the half hexagon.

Step Eighteen

18. Pop three kisses into the spaces.

Step Nineteen

19. Place two pieces of sticky strip on the bottom of the half hexagon.

Step Twenty

20. Remove the sticky strip liner and adhere the car windows to the car body.

Step Twenty-one

21. For the wheels, start with a 8-¾” x 1” strip of Basic Black Card Stock. On the long side, score at, ½”, 1”, 1-½”, 2”, 2-½”, 3”, 5-¾”, 6-¼”, 6-¾”, 7-¼”, 7-¾” and 8-¼”.

Step Twenty-two

22. Put a piece of sticky strip on both of ends of the scored strip. Also, put two strips of sticky strip on the long middle segment.

Step Twenty-three

23. Fold the strip along all score lines as shown. Remove the sticky strip liner from the end segments only and adhere the ends of the strip to the long segment as shown. The ends of the strips will match up with the score marks of the long segment.

Step Twenty-four

24. For the wheel filler strips, cut TWO 3-½” x 1” strips of Basic Black Card Stock.

Step Twenty-five

25. Loosely roll each of the strips around the middle of your Simply Scored Stylus tool.

Step Twenty-six

26. Place one of the rolled strips in each of the hexagonal wheel spaces. Push the strips so that they unroll and relax to the sides of the hexagon.

Step Twenty-seven

27. Push a Hershey’s Kiss into each of the wheel spaces. The kiss should fit snugly without falling out. If it’s too loose, cut a slightly longer strip than you did in step 24. If it’s too tight, remove the wheel filler strip and cut it a little shorter. Please Note: I push the kiss in at least ¼” to keep the car from tilting. The weight of the car can cause a slight tilt because the slope of the kiss does not support the wheel base all the way through. You will understand this better once the car is completely assembled.

Step Twenty-eight

28. Remove the remaining sticky strip liner and adhere the wheels to the bottom of the car.

Step Twenty-nine

29. To make the wheels, punch two ½” circles out of scrap of Basic Black. Next take the 7/8” Scallop Circle Punch and center it over the ½” circle holes and punch out. You should now have two wheel-shaped pieces.

Step Thirty

30. Adhere the wheels from step 29 to the Hershey's kisses.

Step Thirty-one

31. Finish the rest of the car as desired. I added some Silver Glimmer Paper headlights punched out with the circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Pack. I also added 3/4" square Smoky Slate front and rear view windows. Finally I added a "Happy Father's Day" license plate to the back of the car using the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.
