Dress Up Lip Balm Holder

We made this lip balm holder at my April club workshops. My club members loved this design. I would like to thank the very creative Pam Strobel for the inspiration for this tutorial. Her black dress lipstick holder was what inspired me to create a lidded version of her original design. If you get a chance, please check out Pam’s blog and see her other cool designs.

Dress Up Lip Balm Holder Tutorial

Step One

1. Start with a piece of 4-5/8” x 3-1/2” piece of card stock. On the long side, score at ½”, 1-¼” and 3-7/8”.

2. On the short side, score at ¾”, 1-½”, 2-¼” and 3”.

Step Three

3. Orient your card stock as shown. Cut the bottom right corner rectangle away from the card stock. Also, cut the four top right corner squares and rectangles away from the card stock.

4. Make two lid tabs, by cutting the top of the card as shown.

5. Angle cut the side tabs.

Step Six

6. Use the 1” circle punch to round the end of the lid tab. Note: To do this you will slide the card stock in from the bottom of the punch, rather than the side.

Step Seven

7. Put sticky strip on the side tab. Put two lines of sticky strip on all but the first bottom tab.

Step Eight

8. Cut the bottom tabs as shown.

Step Nine

9. Remove the sticky strip from the side tab and adhere the box together.

Step Ten

10. Remove the sticky strip from one of the bottom tabs and bend it inwards. Remove the sticky strip from the other tabs and fold them towards the box. Finish with the bottom tab with no adhesive on it.

Step Eleven

11. Here is what the box looks like when it’s finished.

Step Twelve

12. Cut two dresses from the Polka Dot Designer Series Paper.

Step Thirteen

13. Adhere the dresses to the box with sticky strip making sure the lid opens towards one of the dresses.

Step Fourteen

14. This is what the box looks like with the front and back dresses attached.

Step Fifteen

15. Tie a matching 7” length of stitched grosgrain around the waist of the dress and stamp a tag using the Tiny Tags Stamp Set and the Jewelry Tag Punch.

Timesaver Step

Create a template for yourself using steps one to six. You will use this template to trace the pattern onto a piece of card stock after you have scored it using steps one and two. When you use the template make sure you line up the score lines on the template with the score lines on your scored piece. You may need to flip over your card stock to get the score lines to match up.
