Easter Easel Card Tutorial

We made this card during my club workshops in February. My card was inspired by Anne Matasci’s beautiful card HERE. I used the Oval Framelits Collection to turn the card into an easel card and I substituted the lilies so that we could play with the new crepe paper in the mini catalog. If you would like to recreate this card, just follow my step-by-step tutorial below.

Pre-step One

Pre-step 1. To make it easier to cut this easel card straight, mark the center points on the scallop oval framelit with a Sharpie. To do this, first cut yourself a scallop oval out of scrap card stock.

Pre-step Two

Pre-step 2. Fold this oval in half lengthwise and widthwise. If you look at the photo closely you can see the crease marks on my scrap oval piece. Note: the center points are ALL on a scallop bump not on an indent. Fit the scrap oval back into the scallop oval framelit. Mark the center points at top, bottom and sides with a Sharpie onto the scallop oval framelit, using the creases as your guide. Note: Be precise when you are folding the scrap piece in half. It's easy to be a bump off and then you will mark your framelit incorrectly.

Step One

1. Start with an 11” x 4-¼” piece of card stock. On the long side, and score at the 5-½” mark. Fold along the score line to make a card base.

Step Two

2. Draw a pencil line 3/8” from the open end of the card base. Also make a pencil mark at the midpoint of this line (2-1/8” in from the side). Keeping the score line of the card base partially inside of the framelit (see wide yellow arrow), cut the card using the Scallop Oval Framelit. Make sure to align the midpoint pencil mark with the Sharpie mark (see red arrow) on the framelit before running it through the Big Shot

Step Three

3. Using the oval folder from the Designer Frames Folders, run the inside bottom of the card base through the Big Shot.

Step Four

4. Keeping the card base closed, fit it back inside the scallop oval framelit. Make pencil marks on the front of the card base at the side center points where you previously drew the Sharpie marks. See red arrows.

Step Five

5. Score the card front using the pencil marks as a guide. Note: darken the 6” score line of your Simply Scored to make alignment easier.

Step Six

6. Fold the card front along the score line you just made.

Step Seven

7. Cut a Baja Breeze Scallop Oval Frame. Adhere the Baja Breeze Oval to the top of the folded Pink Pirouette oval card base with sticky strip.

Step Eight

8. Cut the second largest oval out of Whisper White. Texture this piece with the Lattice Embossing Folder and adhere to the Baja Breeze oval.

Step Nine

9. Cut a Lattice Die piece out of Midnight Muse card stock. Mark and cut the lattice piece as shown by the white pencil marks.

Step Ten

10. Adhere the cross to the front of the card with multipurpose glue.

Step Eleven

11. Punch three branches out of Gumball Green card stock using the Bird Builder Punch. Trim the ends of the branches and adhere with multipurpose glue.

Step Twelve

12. Punch FOUR scallop circles out of crepe paper with the 1-¼” Scallop Circle Punch. When punching the crepe paper it is important to punch quickly as the paper tends to bow and not cut all the way through when punching slowly.

Step Thirteen

13. Layer the four circles on top of each other and pierce the center. Add a silver mini brad.

Step Fourteen

14. Taking care not to rip the crepe paper, wrinkle each layer toward the center.

Step Fifteen

15. This is what the crepe paper looks like with three layers wrinkled.

Step Sixteen

16. This is what the crepe paper looks like with all layers wrinkled.

Step Seventeen

17. Spritz the crepe paper flower two or three times with a solution of 91% alcohol and reinkers. I filled my Stampin’ Up spritzer to the top of the logo with 91% alcohol and then added 5 drops Regal Rose reinker. Set aside the flower to dry. It should take just a couple of minutes.

Step Eighteen

18. Adhere the crepe paper flower to the card with a dimensional.

Step Nineteen

19. Finish the rest of the card as desired. I stamped “Happy Easter” with Midnight Muse ink on Whisper White and punched it out with the extra large oval punch. I also tied a 10” length of Pink Pirouette Taffeta into a bow.
