It's almost Sale-A-Bration time and the exclusive Sale-A-Bration products this year are just fabulous. This kite card is made using 3 of our Sale-A-Bration products and my Kite Card Tutorial. You can find my Kite Card tutorial HERE. This kite card is for a very special friend who has a birthday coming up this week. The inside of the card has more surfaces than a traditional card to put pretty designer paper on (see last photo). The unusual shape and opening of this card make it unique.
The bow is made using a serving fork similar to how other fork bows are tied. I just looped the ribbon a few more times before tying the knot.
The embossing of the label is achieved by first cutting out the second smallest label as normal. Then using the smallest label and the following sandwich. NOTE: Please use caution as incorrect placement may result in damage to your pads or machine. Never force a sandwich through your Big Shot that doesn't seem correct.

ReplyDeleteGreat card, great tutorial. Thanks.

Love your kite card, and wow....I was just wondering if some embossing like this could be done. I was looking at a technique on another blog and what she did left an unintended sort of embossed area, which of course got me to wondering if this could be done intentionally, and low and behold you've done it! My machine runs really tight, so don't know if it will work or not, but can't wait to get some framelits and try it! Thanks for showing this!
ReplyDeletegreat card, i made one and still busy with it, just wondering, do you tie the 2 bottom points together or is your bow just on the top part? do you leave the card open and "springy"? this is an ideal card for a little boy.thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, Thanks for your comment. You asked what I did on the bottom of the card to keep it from being so "springy". I left my card springy. My bow is on the top and not tied through to the back. If you give it in an envelope, it will be held closed until it is taken out. OR you could punch a couple of holes in the bottom and tie it shut with a length of ribbon. I hope that helps.
DeleteThanks Brenda, i've uploaded my card to my blog, i've used a brad to keep it together, go check it out ,, http://sunelscrafts.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteits such a quick and easy folded card to make.
My friend just sent me the link to this card - adorable! Thanks for sharing the instructions too!
ReplyDeleteJust TOO cute. I'm going to have to give this a try!
ReplyDeleteOMG LOVE this!!!!! What a great job!!!! (thank you for being so kind!!!! I saw where you visited me mwah!)
ReplyDeleteGreat card! Thanks so much for the tutorial. I'm going to do this with my club this week-end, the girls will love it. One question- do you have any tips on how you cut the dsp layers for the top and insides of the card?
ReplyDeleteLaura, Thanks for your kind comments. Here is how I created the DSP layers: Cut a piece of DSP 4-3/4" x 3-3/4". On the 4-3/4" score line, score at the 1-7/8" mark. On the 3-3/4" side, score at the 1-7/8" mark. With your cutter, cut the four corners off from where the score line meets the edge to where the other score line meets the edge. Finally cut along the score lines. This will create two sets of DSP layers. The one layer will be a perfect dissection of the inner kite shape. The other will be a pattern that doesn't fit back together like a puzzle. However, both sets can be used. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
DeleteI just thought of one more thing. If you want to do the triangles on the inside. Start with a 3-3/4" x 3-3/4" piece. Score at the 1-7/8" mark both ways. Cut the corners off again. Then cut along the score lines again. This also makes 2 sets. If you're using the Everyday Enchantment paper, I sponged the edges that weren't aged with Sahara Sand ink, to give it a more uniform look.
