Grad Cap Gift Card Holder Tutorial

Graduation season is upon us and what better way to give a gift card than in a grad cap shaped card. I designed this card to give to my friend's daughter who is graduating from high school this year. The finished card measures 4" x 4" when complete, so it fits inside one of our medium envelopes or better yet, make a square envelope with our envelope punch board. Find out the rest of the supplies you'll need and where to get them HERE!

Grad Cap Gift Card Holder Tutorial

Step One

1. Start with a piece of 11" x 5-1/2" piece of Basic Black card stock. On the 11" side, score at the 5-1/2" mark. Note: I'm using Smoky Slate Card Stock, because black doesn't photograph well.

Step Two

2. Put the Diagonal Plate on your Simply Scored Scoring Board. On the 11" side, score diagonally on the 2-3/4" mark. Flip the card stock over and do the same for the other 11" side. Your card stock should look like it has a big 'X' scored in the middle.

Step Three

3. Keep the Diagonal Plate on your Simply Scored Scoring Board. On the 11" side, score diagonally on the 8-1/4" mark. Flip the card stock over and do the same for the other 11" side. Rotate the card stock 180 degrees and do the same for the other end and then flip and score once more, so that each of the FOUR corners has a diagonal score line.

Step Four

4. This is what your card stock will look like once it has been completely scored.

Step Five

5a. On one of the short ends, cut off both corners on the diagonal along the score lines.

5b. This is what your card stock will look like once you have cut the two corners off.

Step Six

6. Fold the card stock along the score lines as shown.

Step Seven

7. Fold the bottom triangles inward. These triangles will form the gift card pocket.

Step Eight

8. Cut a 3-7/8" x 3-7/8" square of Basic Black Card Stock. Cut it in half on the diagonal from corner to corner using the Stampin' Trimmer. We will only use one of the halves.

Step Nine

9. Put Tombow on the folded triangles and adhere one of the triangles from step eight on top. Press down with your fingers to make sure you have good adhesion.

Step Ten

10. This is what the pocket looks like once it's finished.

Step Eleven

11. Pierce the center of the card stock that will become the top of the cap.

Step Twelve

12. Place a black glimmer brad in the hole.

Step Thirteen

13. To create white layers, cut two 3-1/2" squares. Leave one of the squares whole and cut the other in half on the diagonal. The square white layer hides the brad legs.

Step Fourteen

14. Create a tassel using colored embroidery floss that matches the school's colors. Pearl embroidery floss works well (it's a little shiny, but not so slippery as to make tying a tassel difficult). I used the tutorial found HERE to create my tassel. Hang the tassel on the brad.

Step Fifteen

15. Stamp the inside of the card. I stamped the words Congratulations and Happy Graduation in Black Staz On. I also used the speckled stamp from Gorgeous Grunge inked in Daffodil Delight to create the look of confetti. Happy Stamping!

Minute Mondays: Cheery Watercolor Wonder Note Cards

I’m always in need of Thank You cards and the Watercolor Wonder Note Cards are the perfect base to start a quick card with. You get four of these zigzag designs in a pack of twenty Watercolor Wonder Note Cards. Below you can see how the card looked like before I added anything to it.

To make the card, I stamped a flower from the Flower Shop stamp set in Tangerine Tango Ink on Tangerine Tango Card Stock and punched it out with the Pansy Flower Punch. I love how the brightness of the flower contrasts with the more subtle colors in the zigzag lines. I then stamped Thank You from the Regarding Dahlias Stamp Set directly onto the card in Island Indigo Ink. Finally I added a Large Rhinestone Jewel.

I made these four note cards in no time at all. These Watercolor Wonder Note Cards will only be available until the end of May, so don't delay in getting yours. Find out the rest of the supplies you'll need and where to get them HERE! Happy Stamping!
